Celebrate Museums and Galleries Month With These Online Events

If you’ve been missing museums this quarantine, that must be especially true this October, which is Museums and Galleries Month. In the past years, this month usually means various festivities, from art fairs to summits. While physical gatherings and visiting these cultural spaces are still off-limits because of the pandemic, you can still celebrate with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ (NCCA) online events!

This year, the Museums and Galleries Month theme is “Engaging Exhibitions for Emerging Generations.” So, the NCCA stated that the events they organized “will highlight the issues of interpretation, exhibition design, and visitor experience.”

MGM K N B?: A Museums and Galleries Month Webinar Series (Every Tuesday and Thursday)

The NCCA will be hosting a series of webinars exploring a different topic about museums and galleries, particularly the work that goes into achieving the role they play in our culture, every Tuesday and Thursday this October via Zoom and Facebook Live. This series is launched in partnership with the Alliance of Greater Manila Area Museums (AGMAM) and Gateway Gallery. Check out the schedule here.

A Call to Transform: Manila Museums Summit 2020 (October 27-30)

The NCCA, in partnership with AGMAM, will also hold a summit for professionals in the industry from October 27 to 30. According to the NCCA, “The event brings together museum and cultural leaders in the Philippines and across the globe to lead a series of dialogues which aim to support museums as we re-orient our programs and objectives—not only to re-define but also to re-invigorate our roles within our communities.”

Mindanao Art (October 21-31)

Mindanao Art, a fair showcasing creative works by artists all over Mindanao, will be going online too. This year’s theme is “Living Art in a New Landscape,” referencing the innovations in art that arose in response to the limitations that the COVID-19 pandemic posed. Artworks will be viewable in a virtual gallery from October 21 to 31, and MinArt talks, where speakers give pre-recorded talks and participate in live online panels will start on October 26.
