“Why should I apologize?” Parlade says he did not ‘red-tag’ Liza Soberano

Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr., the military official who ‘warned’ actress Liza Soberano told ABS-CBN News that he did not red-tag the latter.

“Why should I apologize?” he said, saying Soberano’s camp even thanked him.

“In fact, I got a message, a call from Atty. (Juanito, Jr.) Lim yesterday, thanking me and informing me that they’re sending a thank you letter to me personally for informing them about the nature of this organization, which they don’t want their client to be associated with,” he added.

Parlade stressed that he did not threaten Soberano, Catriona Gray, and Angel Locsin, which he mentioned in his previous statement.

“I’m not threatening these women. I also have daughters, I have sisters. Ang dami kong kaibigan na mga babae. Wala akong ni-red-tag. I’m not using, abusing my authority, my position to red-tag these people or harass these women. No, I am supporting their advocacy,” he said.

Liza Soberano continues to support her advocacies

Soberano’s lawyer Juanito Lim Jr. said during an interview with ANC’s “Matters of Fact” that his client will continue to speak out about her advocacies which includes fighting for women’s rights.

“I must state we take note of the general’s advice, unsolicited as it may sound. However, please know that Ms. Soberano will continue to exercise her constitutionally-protected right to free speech and expression without fear nor restraint from anyone,” Lim said.

He also said that Soberano remains neutral and ‘apolitical.’

“As any civilian would feel, being red-tagged might cause some sort of a chilling effect, but going to this particular situation with Ms. Soberano, we feel that there’s nothing to worry about as far as Liza is concerned because, as we have earlier stated, she has not committed any wrongdoing other than expressing her views.”

Soberano is currently in the United States and is taking care of her grandmother.
