Celebrity weddings are often grand celebrations, complete with multiple outfit changes, dreamy receptions, and picture-perfect locations, all attended by the most notable people in Philippine society. But these five newlywed couples are setting the trend of going low-key—and proved that opting for a simple wedding could be just as memorable.
Here are five celebrity couples, whose simple wedding celebrations we absolutely loved:
1. Megan Young and Mikael Daez
This longtime couple surprised us last year when they dropped photos of their wedding on Instagram—on the very same day that they got married!
Although they had two weddings, both were simple and elegant. Only 10 people were in attendance for their first wedding on January 10, 2020, where Megan wore a one-shoulder wrap dress that falls just below her knees, while Mikael wore a light brown suit.
For their second wedding on January 25, 2020, the groom donned a beige suit while the bride wore a sheer, long-sleeved gown designed by Patricia Santos. Megan later on changed into a sleeveless dress and traded her low bun for a ponytail for the reception.

2. Sarah Lahbati and Richard Gutierrez
The long-awaited wedding of this couple was supposed to be attended by a large group of people, but with the start of the nationwide quarantine in March 2020, the couple had to adapt.
“The big gathering to celebrate with all our loved ones, friends and colleagues will have to wait because we care more about everyone’s safety and health,” Sarah and Richard both posted on Instagram.
Despite the pandemic, Sarah and Richard still got married on March 14, 2020 in the presence of their families. The bride looked beautiful in an off-shoulder white dress, while the groom wore a black button-down and slacks, topped with a cream-colored suit.
3. Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli
One of the most talked about celebrity couples at the start of 2020 was #AshMatt, whose wedding celebration also came as a surprise despite the announcement of their engagement in November 2019.
Sarah and Matteo got married on February 20, 2020 in a Christian ceremony at the Victory Church in Taguig. Sarah is seen in a beige top and Matteo in a white button-down, in the only photo posted by the groom from their wedding (so far!)
4. KC Montero and Stephanie Dods
TV host and Radio DJ KC Montero married his sweetheart, model Stephanie Dods in the third quarter of 2019, five years after they first met. KC penned a romantic post a month after their wedding, saying, “Every doubt, every question disappears when I look into her eyes. She is my home. She is my wife.”
The couple welcomed their first child, Wyatt Cody Miller, on December 14, 2020.
5. Alex Gonzaga and Mikee Morada
Just a day after celebrating her 33rd birthday, Alex Gonzaga revealed that she got married to Lipa City councilor Mikee Morada in November 2020. They had an intimate ceremony attended only by their immediate family.
The couple got engaged in December 2019 and shared the news with the world in January 2020.
A month after they got married, Alex also gave a sneak peek into their future home which is already under construction.
