The upcoming Gossip Girl reboot that HBO Max is producing is a TV show that’s already highly anticipated, especially among fans of the original series, regardless of how little we know about its plot. What we’ve known for a while now, though, are the characters who are about to bring this story of the Manhattan elite to life. However, one more actress was just added to the cast: Elizabeth Lail.
Lail is an American actress, and you probably know her for her role as Guinevere Beck – or just Beck – in one of Netflix’s most successful shows, You. Coincidentally, her co-star, Penn Badgley is best known for his role as Dan Humphrey in the original Gossip Girl.
She will be joining an already large ensemble cast, which includes Emily Alyn Lind, Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Julien Calloway, Whitney Peak, Evan Mock, Tavi Gevinson, Zion Moreno, and Savannah Lee Smith.
While we don’t know about the specifics of the reboot’s plot, we do know that it’s meant to be an exploration of what the crazy world of the Upper East Side high society looks like now years after the story of Serena and her friends concluded. With social media now in the mix and Gen Z characters taking over the narrative, it’s bound to bring us dynamics and conflicts we’ve never seen before.
We still don’t know anything about who exactly Lail is playing or how her character will fit into the narrative. We can only hope that whoever she’s playing will have much better luck than Beck in her encounters with Joe Goldberg in You.
