The Rocket retires
On March 21, 2021, JC posted a photo of himself with a basketball, along with a heartfelt message of gratitude.
“Words cannot express how grateful I am to every single person who helped me make this journey possible—from playing for 2 years in Letran for High School, to 5 years in Ateneo for College, and 13 years in the pro league,” he said.
He went on to thank specific people, such as his wife, Bianca Gonzalez, parents Nars and Ning, and friends JayR Reyes and Doug Kramer.
“It is a bittersweet feeling for me to say goodbye to the game that has been a huge part of my life, but I am moving forward feeling happy and proud knowing I made the most of the privilege to play basketball professionally,” he said.
At the end of his post, he once again thanked everyone and said playing basketball “has been the honor of my life.”
Cheerleader for life
Bianca Gonzalez honored her husband through an Instagram post, saying how much she admires his work ethic, integrity and strength. She also said that she’s proud to be with him at the end of his basketball career.
“I may not have been there at the start of your 20-year basketball journey, but I am so proud and honored to be by your side and the end of it.”
She went on to promise to always be his “#1 cheerleader for life” together with their two young daughters, Lucia and Carmen.
