It’s been almost a year since the pandemic became official, and unfortunately, things are not looking too good as there has been a sudden surge of cases in the country. A lot of people have been going outside for non-essential purposes, and while it’s normal to miss some semblance of ‘normalcy,’ you put yourself at risk of contracting the virus when you interact with other people.

So you might be asking yourself, ‘how can I help?’ Well, according to the leading health authority in the globe, the World Health Organization (WHO), here are some pieces of advice to keep yourself and others safe from COVID-19:

  1. Make wearing a mask a normal part of being around other people. It is equally important to use, store, clean, and dispose of masks properly to ensure their effectiveness.
  1. Maintain at least a 1-meter distance from other people. This is to reduce your risk of infection when they cough, sneeze or speak. When indoors, you should maintain a greater distance.
  1. Wash your hands regularly. Thoroughly disinfect yourself with an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water on a regular basis.
  1. Disinfect surfaces that are regularly touched, such as door handles, phone screens, and faucets.
  1. Avoid spaces that are closed, crowded, or involve close contact. COVID-19 outbreaks have been reported in crowded indoor settings since the beginning of the pandemic, so it would be best to bow out of these places for now.

The ongoing pandemic can be tough on anyone, but looking at the bigger picture, sacrifices must be made for the greater good. If there is anything history has taught us, it is that humanity is capable of overcoming any adversity thrown its way. The roll-out of the vaccine brings hope that someday, the pandemic will be over. For now, it’s best to stay smart and safe.
