For those who are still into Paramore, here’s some good news: album #6 is apparently on its way! You can bet on that because Hayley Williams said so herself.
Or at least, teased so herself. While she didn’t formally announce the pop-rock band’s forthcoming album, her Instagram post last week was enough to send fans fantasizing.
Featuring a screenshot of her conversation with long-time Paramore drummer Zac Farro, Williams’ post hinted that a sixth studio album could be in the works, per the ominous “paramour 6” message and Williams’ caption: “We! are! getting oooooold!”
In recent years, Williams has been concentrating on a solo music career. In 2020, we saw the debut of her first solo album, Petals for Armor, which she then followed up with FLOWERS for VASES/descansos last February.
It was shortly after the release of her second solo album when Williams first opened the possibility of another Paramore album. Responding to a fan, Williams wrote in a tweet that she’s not currently working on another solo album and that she’s “ready” to revert her focus back on Paramore.
Speaking to NME, Williams also revealed that Paramore’s next record will see them gradually return to their pop-rock roots, noting how Taylor York, the band’s guitarist, “misses guitars.” This move would be a clear contrast to their last album which leaned heavily into synth-pop sounds.
“We’ve found ourselves listening to a lot of older music that we grew up being inspired by,” Williams said.
If the band really is planning to record their sixth full-length, then this would be the longest gap of time between album releases, with their latest, After Laughter, seeing first light way back in May 2017. It was back in 2019 when the band announced via Instagram that they were taking a break after “grinding away for 15 years.”
