Untitled To All the Boys Spinoff in the Works

Untitled To All the Boys Spinoff in the Works

Fans who adored the love story of Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinski may be deflated about Netflix wrapping up the To All the Boys trilogy. Just like Jenny Han’s novels ended with Always and Forever, Lara Jean, there won’t be a fourth movie for the fictional high school sweethearts. The good news is a spinoff is already in the works and it’s going to revolve around the youngest of the Covey sisters, Kitty.

Early Development

There has not been an official announcement from Netflix, but Deadline gives exclusive updates about the supposed To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before TV series. It’s now in early development and will be a half-hour romantic comedy series about how Katherine “Kitty” Song Covey finds love. Anna Cathcart, who played the role in the Netflix adaption is expected to be re-casted.

A Good Compromise

Author Jenny Han is set to be the creator, writer, and executive producer of the spinoff. She’s already made it clear that she’s satisfied with how the three-part novel-turned-film ended and doesn’t see the need for another sequel. This makes the TV series sound like a good compromise. Although, it might take a while before we get an actual release date for the potential series.

Han will be co-writing the pilot script with another Young Adult author, Siobhan Vivian, who she co-authored with on the Burn for Burn trilogy.

We’ve watched Kitty Covey grow up in the To All the Boys trilogy and it would be interesting to see how she’ll navigate her way through life and love as a young teenager. After all, if it weren’t for her, LJ and Peter might not have even gotten together, so it only seems fitting that she get her own spotlight.
