Heads up, DC fans! We have a new Green Lantern to welcome onto our screens: Finn Wittrock. Over the weekend, it was announced that Wittrock will be playing Guy Gardner, the lead role in the upcoming HBO Max Green Lantern series.
The show is based on DC’s comics of the same name and will be spanning decades and featuring “the adventures of a multitude of Lanterns.” These will include Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and Alan Scott. Aside from the Lanterns, it will feature iconic villain, Sinestro, and some never-before-seen heroes. While we’ve got a big cast of characters to look forward to, though, only Guy Gardner has been casted so far.
Wittrock will be a familiar face to fans of horror series American Horror Story and Ratched. The actor has an impressive TV resume and has even received two Emmy nominations — one for his role as Dandy Mott in American Horror Story: Freakshow and another for his portrayal of Jeffrey Trail in the crime drama series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
All of these roles are projects that Ryan Murphy worked on, and Green Lantern marks the first time in seven years that Wittrock will be part of a series that isn’t a collaboration involving the mega TV producer.
This will also be the first big Green Lantern project since the movie featuring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan back in 2011. With the film being a disappointment both at the box office and among comic book buffs and critics, fans of the ring-wearing heroes will definitely be looking forward to this series in the hopes that it can deliver on the things they love about the Lanterns’ stories.
