A year into the pandemic, and everyone’s been missing having a sense of normalcy. However, the ongoing inoculation of the COVID-19 vaccines give hope that the end of this global crisis is on the horizon.

Once you’ve gotten fully vaccinated though, what comes next? According to UNICEF, here are some things you should do after getting jabbed:

  1. Expect minor side effects. After you’ve been vaxxed, it’s perfectly normal to experience some side effects. Having them means that the vaccine is working, after all. Common side effects include some pain, swelling and redness on the arm where you received the vaccine, chills or mild fever, tiredness, headaches, and joint pain or muscle ache.Yes, they can be bothersome, but these usually go away after a few days.
  1. Take good care of yourself. If you have the option to do so, take a sick leave to nurse yourself as you go through the side effects of getting vaccinated. You need to refrain from strenuous physical activity such as intense exercise for a few days. You also need to drink a lot of fluids. Taking some paracetamol helps ease any of the side effects’ sensations.
  1. Keep up preventive behaviours. While it has been proven that the vaccine can stop people from developing the virus, there is no proof yet if it prevents people from passing infection onto others. That’s why you should still practice basic safety protocols such as washing your hands for twenty seconds, wearing a face mask, and keeping one meter away from other people.
  1. Encourage other people to get vaccinated. There is a lot of apprehension from people to get vaccinated. That’s why you should do your part, and educate them about the benefits of getting jabbed. Share about your personal experience to encourage them to follow suit.

Getting vaccinated plays an important part in helping end the ongoing pandemic. It gives hope that people will get to enjoy a lot of things they miss once again. Until then, it’s best to stay safe, and follow the protocols.
