Now we know who Tyra Banks rooted for in the Miss Universe 2020!

The Miss Universe 2020 may already be behind us, but supermodel and actress Tyra Banks is still singing praises for Filipino beauty queens when she shared Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s tweet saying that Rabiya Mateo’s performance in the pageant made her country proud.

Banks wrote her own spirited caption: “Pretty Pinoy Power Forever!” followed by a yellow heart and the Miss Universe hashtag.

By sharing the tweet, Banks also shared Gray’s elation for the Philippines holding the record for the longest ongoing streak of Miss Universe semi-finalists. With Mateo’s Top 20 placement, the country has now produced a semi-finalist for 11 years straight.

This isn’t the first time Banks admired Filipina beauty queens, and certainly not the first time she gushed over Gray on social media. Back in 2019, the America’s Next Top Model host heavily admired Gray’s infamous “lava walk,” even pitting it against her signature lava strut when she walked as a Victoria’s Secret model.

Then, Banks again poured her heart out to Gray when the two caught up for an interview for V Magazine. Through a virtual interview, the two talked about all things runway-related and how much the supermodel supports Filipino beauty whenever it hits the pageant stage.

None

Mateo, who hoped to follow Gray’s footsteps by capturing the country’s fifth Miss Universe title, bowed out of the competition after clinching a Top 21 spot. The eventual winner of the crown was Mexico’s Andrea Meza.
