“Pageantry redefined” – that’s how Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray started off her Instagram post in which she announced that she and Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2016 Nicole Cordovez are this year’s Binibining Pilipinas hosts.
This marks the first time that the pageant will be delivered by an all-female hosting tandem in its 57-year history.
Catriona bagged the Binibining Pilipinas crown back in 2018, a precursor to her ultimate pageant win as Miss Universe 2018. Meanwhile, Nicole was named Binibining Pilipinas Grand International back in 2016 and clinched first runner-up in the international pageant.
The Binibining Pilipinas 2021 will finally premiere next month following a series of postponements due to the coronavirus pandemic as well as scheduling conflicts. It was initially slated for April 26, 2020, but got delayed a year later to April 17, 2021, and yet again to June 27, 2021.
Finally, they landed on a coronation date: July 11, 2021, the same day as the Miss World Philippines competition.
“Ito na ang hinintay natin ng kay tagal,” Cordovez said during an interview with ABS-CBN News. ““We know it was harder on you this year as you worked with the pandemic, but you have a greater platform to show people that there is still so much we can do and look forward to despite our situation.”
“Finally, the long wait is over!” Gray also said during a preview spiel taped during the beauty queen’s recent vacation in Australia.
34 women make the final cut of the prestigious pageant after six candidates withdrew from the competition. They will have the chance to vie for four titles: Binibining Pilipinas International, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International, Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental, and Binibining Pilipinas Globe. The winners of each would then go on to represent the country in their respective international pageants.
The 57th Binibining Pilipinas pageant will air live on July 11, 2021, at 9:45 P.M. from the Araneta Coliseum via the A2Z channel and the official Binibining Pilipinas YouTube channel.
