After speculation over the couple’s silence made rounds online, Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo’s first and long-time boyfriend, Neil Salvacion, has admitted that they have indeed broken up.
Through an Instagram Story, Salvacion spoke up about unrelenting rumors that his 7-year relationship with the beauty queen has been on the rocks. He started off by telling off those who were “spreading rumors without even knowing the real story.”
“We don’t deserve all the negativities manifested towards us, especially towards Rab, she worked hard to achieve whatever she has right now, and she deserves it all,” Salvacion said. “It’s NEVER okay to degrade a person just to prove a point. I mean, if you have nothing good to say, it’s better to keep it within yourself.”
Salvacion then bared the real deal about their relationship but assured followers that it was an amicable parting. “The real thing is, we’re not together anymore, but we’re both okay. Moving forward, we talked and we’re both happy with our lives.”
We believe that God placed us in this kind of situation for a reason, and that is for the better,” he added.
Salvacion then advised his followers that it “doesn’t cost a cent to be kind,” and that we should “spread kindness and be respectful towards each other.”
Salvacion’s confirmation comes after a spate of rumors which started when netizens noticed that he wiped all photos of them together off his Instagram page.
Then, the 24-year old Ilonggo beauty, who is currently in the United States, was also linked to Pinoy Big Brother alumnus Andre Brouillette, after the two met during an event in the US. She later clarified that she and Brouillette only bumped into each other as they were both talents of known pageant mentor Jonas Gaffud.
“Nahihiya ako kay Andre, ‘yung photos na kumalat, that was the third time na I was able to talk to him. Sinundo lang nila ako sa airport,” Mateo said.
Most recently, Mateo told host Boy Abunda in an interview for the latter’s YouTube talk show that her relationship with Salvacion is a “complicated situation” and that they have been meaning to “talk about things” once the beauty queen flies back to the Philippines.
Mateo first revealed her relationship with Salvacion during an interview with ABS-CBN News last November 2020. “We’ve been dating for six years. He’s my first boyfriend… He made me promise not to leave him even if I win the Miss Universe Philippines crown,” Mateo said.
