ABS-CBN terminates its partnership with Chinatown News TV

After announcing on Monday, April 12, that ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) tied up with Chinatown News TV and will air a pure Mandarin Chinese newscast weekly, the Kapamilya network’s official iWantTFC Twitter account confirmed that CNTV will no longer air on ANC.

This comes after viewers noticed that the program did not air yesterday, April 15. iWantTFC informed former journalist Jerald Uy that they’ll no longer air the show.

“We’d like to share an update with you that CNTV will no longer air on ANC. We truly appreciate your support for ABS-CBN and hope that you continue to share with us feedback on our programs. Stay safe, Kapamilya!” it read.

iWantTFC is owned by ABS-CBN Corporation and is a merged service of iWant and The Filipino Channel (TFC) Online.

ANC’s partnership with CNTV drew flak and most of the citizens said that the issue between China and the West Philippine Sea is still a sensitive issue, thus, making the broadcast deal look insensitive to what most of the Pinoys feel.

However, ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs Chief Ging Reyes defended the agreement saying that the show is “ “produced by fellow Filipinos who belong to the Filipino-Chinese community” and  “should not be equated with the intrusions in the West Philippine Sea.”
