The Filipina tennis player cannot be stopped!

Alex Eala and her Argentinian partner Solana Sierra are through to the quarterfinals of the Girls 18 Doubles at the Orange Bowl in Florida. The pair are three wins away from winning it all.

The duo was seeded third in the tournament. They recently bested Russia’s Mirra Andreeva and USA’s Katja Wiersholm, 6-3, 6-2, in the Round of 16. The 16-year-old previously won the title in doubles with Belursian Evialina Laskevich in 2019. However, she has already bowed out of the singles division of the tournament.

For now, Eala and Sierra are set to face Swiss Chelsea Fontenel and the United States’ Qavia Lopez in the quarterfinals. Eala has had a spectacular 2021 tennis season so far. She has won her first-ever pro title in the W15 Manacor in January, a Grand Slam doubles title in Rolland Garros, and twin titles in a junior’s tiff in Milan. Given that this is her year-end tourney, Eala and her partner are hoping to cap it off with a slam.

As of now, Eala is ranked second in the world in the Women’s Junior division, while ranking 505th in the world. This is an amazing feat since she turned pro just last March of 2020. Considering she’s only 16 years old, it’s safe to say a lot can still be expected from the Pinay tennis player.

A lot of sporting events have been affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but since you can play tennis while social distancing, Eala’s sport has been going strong. However, all stops are being made to make sure Eala and the rest of the professional players participating in the tournaments are safe from the virus.
