Celebrities call for #StopTheKillingsPH after police guns down mother and son

The hashtag #StopTheKillingsPH immediately trended online after celebrities and netizens reacted to the brutal killing of a mother and son by a police officer identified as Jonel Nuezca in Paniqui, Tarlac yesterday, December 20.

The altercation started when Sonya Gregorio, 52 and her son Frank Anthony Gregorio, 25, were reprimanded over their use of ‘boga’ or a makeshift firecracker. Alyssa Calosing was able to record the incident and it immediately went viral.

In the clip, Nuezca was seen shooting the mother and son. Nuezca’s daughter was also at the scene during the time.

In an interview with DZMM Teleradyo, Calosing, who was one of the witnesses, said that after killing the victims, Nuezca took his daughter and walked away ‘as if nothing happened.’

This prompted netizens and celebrities to call for justice and also stop the killings in the country. Before the tragic incident, extrajudicial killings and the authorities’ abuse of power were already a hot topic and are often a subject of serious debates by the public.

Bianca Gonzalez, Jed Madela, Janella Salvador, Maine Mendoza, and more TV personalities also voiced their opinion and described the incident as inhumane.

Actress Alessandra de Rossi also hoped that it’s not yet too late for the suspect’s daughter to change her beliefs since being a ‘father,’ a ‘policeman,’ and a ‘murderer’ are different things.

Calosing told DZMM that Nuezca’s daughter told the victims that her father’s a policeman and Sonya replied, “I don’t care eh eh eh.”

DJ Mo Twister also said that President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration is also to blame because these killings are being tolerated.

Nuezca has already surrendered to authorities on Sunday evening while the investigation is still ongoing.
