The coalition 1SAMBAYAN announced their nominees for president and vice president for the 2022 elections last Saturday, June 12. These six individuals on the list were chosen based on capabilities to provide good governance that the public deserves. One of the nominees was Atty. Chel Diokno confirmed that he is indeed running in the upcoming elections remains undecided on the position.
No Expectations of Firm Decisions
The six nominees on their list were Vice President Leni Robredo, Former Senator Antonio Trillanes, Senator Grace Poe, CIBAC party-list Rep. Eddie Villanueva, Atty. Chel Diokno, and Batangas rep. Vilma Santos-Rector. Following this announcement, they released a statement saying there are no expectations of firm decisions from these individuals now. “1SAMBAYAN supports our nominees’ desire to think, weigh, and discern if it is truly their personal mission to be in positions of power.”
Focused on Free Legal Helpdesk
The Human Rights Lawyer’s initial statement was that he’s very honored by the nomination. He admits he never aspired for those positions and is focused on his Free Legal Helpdesk. “I hope to serve our country, especially the youth and the ordinary Filipino [with] justice, accountability, and relief from the pandemic.” Many netizens showed their support for Atty. Diokno, expressing that he’ll have their vote no matter what position he runs for.
Hopes to Fix the Justice System
On June 16, Atty. Diokno clarifies that he will be running in 2022, albeit being undecided on the post. “Our justice system is not gonna get fixed unless people in power see the problem and do something about it. I’ve been a lawyer for three decades; every day I work on my Free Legal Helpdesk, and I’ve seen it firsthand. I know how we should fix our justice system.”
