Russian Boy Beats Robot In Chess Tourney, Robot Breaks His Finger In Revenge

Yup, you read that right. Poor kid!

A chess AI broke a 7-year-old boy’s finger while playing in a chess tournament in Moscow. Sergei Lazarev, Moscow Chess Federation President, talked about the incident in an interview.

According to Lazarev, the incident happened on July 21. During their game, a boy named Christopher made a move but didn’t give the robot enough time to process it. This resulted in the robot grabbing him by the hand. It held on and refused to let go. This prompted adults to come to the boy’s rescue, but the robot had already broken one of his fingers by then.

Many individuals thought the situation to be an evil advancement in technology. Some even thought that the kid’s lack of patience agitated the bot. But robots are incapable of expressing real human emotions, or so we think.

“The robot broke the child’s finger,” Moscow Chess Federation President Sergei Lazarev said. He later emphasized the gravity of the situation, saying, “Of course, this is bad.”

Despite the unfortunate accident, the boy returned to the competition the next day. “The child played the following day. He finished the tournament in a cast, and volunteers helped record the moves,” Lazarev said.

Christopher’s parents are examining legal options. Even though he returned the following day, he’s not likely to look for a rematch.
