No biggie, just Erwan Heusaff and Isabelle Daza pitching a total of $2,250, or about P109,000, for a community cause.

Despite setbacks posed by government agencies tagging the initiative as a front for communist agendas, the original community pantry in Maginhawa garnered even more financial support from the community, with a huge portion even coming from well-known wealthy celebrities.

Those include actress and it-girl Isabelle Daza, who pitched in $250 (around P12,000) to the pantry’s official PayPal account. She even commended the project, writing that they “are doing a great job” after donating her sum.

The other was Erwan Heusaff, who stole social media users’ attention after donating a whopping $2,000 (around PHP96,000) on the sly.

According to the pantry organizer Ana Patricia “Patreng” Non’s mother, Zena Bernardo, the PayPal account was set up by Patreng’s sister, Pauline Non, with an original goal of just $5,000 that has since been exceeded overwhelmingly. Since she is currently based in the US, the account shows the balance in dollars.

NTF-ELCAC head’s post backfired?

In the same Facebook post by Bernardo, she also noted that she was “overjoyed” that donations starting pouring in right after Lorraine Badoy, Communications Undersecretary and Spokesperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), posted on Facebook her misgivings that Patreng has managed to raise more than half a million, as well as her accusations that the Maginhawa community pantry has covert communist agendas.

Bernardo noticed that mere minutes after Badoy’s post, donations started to come in waves, and by the end of the day, the amount has “doubled.”

“Some donated $1… some 100… then this ELCAC decided to promote the Community Pantry and boom! Biglang nagdoble ang donation today!” Bernardo wrote. “Salamat ELCAC! LABYUMATS!”

Social media users also took notice of the sequence of events and argued that Badoy’s post “backfired” by giving the community pantry’s donation drive a much-needed signal boost.
