The wait is almost over! Dito Telecommunity has announced it will finally launch its services to the public starting March 8. The telecommunications startup is looking to challenge telecommunications giants PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom that have long dominated the industry.
It should be noted, however, that Dito Telecommunity is not yet in full capacity. “So many things still need to be done and we’re keeping our expectations grounded,” Dito Telecommunity Chief Administrative Officer Atty. Adel Tamano said in a company statement. “We all hope to experience the impact of DITO Telecommunity gradually amplified throughout the country in the next few months. We strive to be a true partner in providing more access for modern telecommunications for the Filipino people.”Â
According to Rappler.com, the new telco startup’s roll-outs will come in waves, opening first in 17 municipalities and cities in Mindanao and Visayas, including key cities Davao and Cebu. On March 8, Dito will start selling its sim cards in approximately 20 stores in the aforementioned areas. Dito subscribers will be assigned the mobile number prefixes 0991, 0992, 0993, 0994, 0895, 0896, 0897, and 0898. Online distribution for Dito sim cards will be available in the next couple of weeks.Â
While Dito sims will be sold in select areas only, mobile reception will be available in other areas as Dito is now at 45% population coverage. On the other hand, Dito offers 4G and 5G services only, so you might want to hold back from switching to Dito if your mobile device isn’t 4G and 5G-compatible.
Dito Telecommunity has yet to announce its mobile and data plans, as well as its handset offerings. The company is expected to make a nationwide rollout by mid-2021. Whether you’re looking to make the big switch or not, it’s interesting to watch how the new telco player will change the game.
