Donald Trump is coming out with his own social media app and it will be available this February.
Truth Social, or so the app is called, will reportedly combat censorship and the “self-righteous scolds and self-appointed arbiters” who, according to Donald Trump, decide what everyone is allowed to “think, say, share, and do.” It will also be a part of the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) and will function as an alternative to Twitter. Similar to Twitter, users will be allowed to follow other users and trending topics while also being able to chat privately among other app members.
The launch of the new app comes just 13 months after social media platforms Facebook and Twitter banned the former president on their sites for encouraging the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol. Instagram, Snapchat, and Reddit also banned the 75-year-old from use on their platforms.
Coincidentally, the Apple Inc. App Store listing sets the app’s launch date for February 21st of this year, on the U.S. Presidents’ Day holiday. Though eager customers will be able to pre-order it now.
TMTG, Trump’s newest media venture, is in the middle of its three stages of planned development. The app’s launch marks the completion of the first stage, while the second stage will entail a subscription video-on-demand service called TMTG+ with entertainment, news and podcasts, according to the company website. Most notably, it promises “non-woke” content.
The third stage, as per an investor presentation, also points towards the launch of a new podcast network.
