Gilas completes two-game sweep of Korea

Was the last game-winning shot simply lady luck being on Team Gilas’ side? Well, it looks like they’ve successfully silenced the naysayers. Gilas Pilipinas triumphed over the Korean basketball squad with an 82-77 victory at the Angeles University Foundation Gym. This win means they’re headed to the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup undefeated.

Dwight Ramos got the ball rolling from the start, with his 5-of-9 shots made from the three-point line to finish the game with 19 points, alongside 5 assists, two steals, and three rebounds as he led the team for the win.

His most crucial play happened with 15.8 seconds remaining on the clock when he split from the free-throw line then grabbed the rebound after his miss. This allowed him to close the game for good, and proved that the 81-78 victory in the previous game was indeed no fluke.

Ramos wasn’t the only player who shone in the game. SJ Belangel, who shot the three-point dagger that cemented the previous win against Korea, played a prominent role in the endgame – one of many heroes that stepped up for the hosts. With this win, Gilas has completed a sweep of its three games inside the Clark bubble, and finished Group A of the qualifiers with 6-0.

The 2021 FIBA Asian Cup is slated for August 17 to 29, 2021 at Jakarta, Indonesia. Other teams that have cemented their tickets to the tournament are Korea, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Iran, Syria, Jordan and Kazakhstan.

As a huge basketball-loving nation, the success of Gilas Pilipinas has proven to be a huge boost for Filipino fans. It looks like Pinoys will still have a lot more to cheer for in the upcoming tourney. Let’s hope the ballers will bring pride to the nation once again.
