As if holding a beauty pageant in the middle of a pandemic isn’t remarkable enough, the all-online Negrosanon Queen 2021 succeeded to turn even more heads with their one-of-a-kind concept: making its contestants compete with no makeup on.

Last February 2, the public information platform of the province of Negros Oriental, Negrosanon Palanggaon, announced the 25 finalists for the Negrosanon Queen 2021 by posting their individual photos, all with no makeup on them, and sharing the apt tagline for the contest: #NoFilter.

“We are giving you a one of a kind and unique online pageant that celebrates the true beauty of a Negrosanon lady that is raw, authentic and unfiltered,” the post’s caption read.

The coronation night took place last February 6 and was streamed live via the Facebook pages of Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves and Negrosanon Palanggaon. The winner took home P200,000, while their represented barangay bagged P200,000 in cash incentives.

Netizens were all praises after the barefaced beauty contestants were first announced, saying that the pageant’s unique concept is “breaking boundaries.”

One Facebook user wrote under the post that “nindot kaayo sila tan-awon. Mao ni klarong mga gwapa.” (They are all so beautiful to look at. It’s very clear that they are all beautiful). Another said, “kudos san aka hunahuna ani ng idea! Gwapa silang tanan nga walay make-up. How much more kung mabutngan silag kolorete tanan!” (Kudos to whoever came up with the idea. They are all so beautiful without their make-up; how much more if they wore it?)

Amazing as they all looked like, this pageant left us thinking: what if all beauty contests were done this way?
