Jolo Revilla blames intern after erroneously calling Magellan a ‘hero’

Cavite Vice Governor Ramon ‘Jolo’ Revilla III recently came under fire for referring to Ferdinand Magellan as a hero.

Revilla, who appeared to have mistaken Magellan for Filipino hero Lapu-Lapu, claimed in his Facebook post that the Portuguese explorer is a hero during the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mactan.

“Isang pagsaludo sa kagitingan ng isa sa mga unang bayani ng bayan na si Ferdinand Magellan na nagbuwis ng buhay para sa kalayaan 500 taon na ang nakararaan!”

He immediatly issued an apology over what he said in his Facebook post and said: “I apologize for the earlier confusing post on our celebration of Lapu-lapu’s victory in Mactan 500 years ago.”

But instead of fully owning up to his mistake, Revilla chose to blame his intern for the what has happened.

“An intern in our social media team posted the caption to our meme without first clearing it,” Revilla said.

Directly apologizing to Cebuanos for his remarks, he stated: “Again, my sincerest apologies to our Cebuano kababayans and to all Filipinos.”

He has already deleted his post on his Facebook page.

Revilla is the son of Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado.
