Exerting more effort to divert traffic from the metro’s main thoroughfare that is EDSA, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) revealed on Thursday that the BGC-Ortigas Center Road Link is almost complete, eyeing an official opening this June 12.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar also inspected on Thursday the 1.37-kilometer Sta. Monica-Lawton bridge that will connect the cities of Taguig and Mandaluyong. The four-lane bridge, which costs P1.793 billion, crosses the Pasig River and serves as an alternate corridor for vehicles traversing Metro Manila’s main arteries, along with Guadalupe Bridge in EDSA and Bagong Ilog Bridge in C5.

Currently, the bridge appears to be completely linked. As such, Villar expects the department to spend the remaining weeks until its soft opening to do a few finishing touches on the median barrier, the parapets, the street lights, and other safety features.

Once fully finished, the link should be able to lessen travel time from Bonifacio Global City in Taguig to the Central Business District in Ortigas to just 12 minutes. Perhaps this can be cut down to even less time once another project in tow, the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge that will connect Makati and Mandaluyong City, opens in July.
