Miss World Philippines 2021 Tracy Maureen Perez continues the tasteful trend of promoting Filipino mythology with her elaborate national costume inspired by the moon goddess, Mayari.

The Cebuana stunner unveiled the colorful couture on Tuesday, December 14 during the Miss World pageant’s preliminaries in Puerto Rico. She also shared the look on her Instagram, where she spoke about the mythological character that motivated the ensemble.

“MAYARI — Moon Goddess and daughter of Bathala. Hailed as the most beautiful deity, she has complete dominion of the world at night,” wrote Perez. “The moon has been revered as a celestial being by most ancient civilizations in antiquity. Apart from its mysterious allure, it has also been though to have great cosmic influence on the mortal realm.”

Created by Cebu-based designer Axel Que, the national costume flaunted a full-body, modern maximalist base silhouette embellished with white & purple moonflowers and sewn with Pearls and tassels along the border of the hemlines. To complete her grandiose look, Perez donned a waving solid-purple sash and a complex flower headpiece to act as her “halo.”

The jewelry was carefully crafted by Christopher Munar while renowned designer Jojo Bragais took care of her footwear.

Que was also responsible for dressing Perez during her Miss World Philippines run. In the run-up to her local pageant victory, Perez wore Que’s “Vessel of Faith” costume, which Que explained to Manila Bulletin was “a representation of a journey of the Christian faith.”

The winners of the Miss World’s Head to Head fast-track event automatically earn a spot in the semi-finals. The other fast-track events include Beach Beauty, Talent, Top Model, and Beauty With A Purpose, in which Perez secured a Top 5 spot.

The Miss World 2021 is supposed to take place live this Friday, December 17 (Manila time) but was temporarily postponed. Perez hopes to be the second woman to bring home the crown after Miss World 2013 Megan Young.
