Manila Bulletin apologizes for Bong Go argument made using official account

Awkward.

On Monday, Manila Bulletin issued an apology where it took the blame for its social media staff who erroneously posted a personal sentiment defending Senator Bong Go using the publication’s official Facebook page.

“We are taking measures to prevent this from recurring, while the staff responsible for this mistake will be dealt with accordingly,” the publication said. “We welcome such feedback and reports of errors, so we could correct them and improve our work.”

“The Manila Bulletin remains impartial and committed to provide Filipinos objective news,” it added.

The apology admitted accountability over a screenshot that made the rounds over the weekend showing a comment from the official Manila Bulletin Facebook page standing up for Senator Bong Go’s premier project, the Malasakit Centers situated nationwide.

Responding to a social media user who criticized Go’s vice presidential bid, the mistaken comment read: “Research ka kung ilang Malasakit Center at ilang Filipino na ang nakinabang. Kesa naman ‘yung iba dyan sarili lang nila nakinabang.”

Tech News Online, the official page of Manila Bulletin’s technology section, even poked fun at the fault and taunted the erring staff.

So remember, fledgling social media managers: always log out of your work account before trolling people on the Internet.
