Resuming Operations in the Philippines

Nuseir Yassin, better known as Nas Daily, announced on his Facebook page that his online learning platform will be offering free virtual classes. Filipinos can avail courses on content creation, sound design, cinematography, as well as confidence-building. The class takes place once a week, from September 22 to October 13.

“Nas Academy is all about giving back, so we are running Free Community Classes in the Philippines,” he wrote. “We’re teaching LIVE our best 4 courses — 1 each week for the next 4 weeks. And this is your turn to see what all the hype is about.”

Apo Wang-Od Controversy

Local operations were halted in August when Nas Academy was accused of violating the indigenous peoples’ rights. This follows claims that Apo Wang-Od did not consent to the online school’s contract, which was advertised as a course on ancient tattooing.

The contract was determined to be “onerous” by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP). They stated that Whang-Od neither gave consent nor was made aware that she would teach on the platform. However, Nas Academy insists it was legal to conduct and tried to dispute the claims.

Among other well-known Filipino personalities who were set to teach classes at Nas Academy were Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and journalist Jessica Soho. They have since withdrawn due to the issue.
