Netflix Launches Tudum, Its News Content Site

Netflix is dipping its toes in news content with a brand new website called Tudum.

Named after the streaming giant’s iconic opening sound when pressing play on a show or film, Tudum will feature news and information about renewals, release dates, and other consumer content about its TV series and films. According to the company, the site was made to be “a place to discover more about your Netflix favorites.”

More than that, users can log into the website with their Netflix account to be able to curate the news to match their viewing habits. That means fans of Squid Game will be able to see all things Squid Game — from where to buy costumes to exclusive inside info about new seasons or casts.

In a blog post, Bozoma Saint John, chief marketing officer at Netflix, described Tudum as a platform where fans can “dive deeper into the stories they love, fuel their obsessions, and start new conversations.”

“It’s still early days, and our launch today is just the beginning,” Saint John wrote earlier in December.

The site isn’t Netflix’s first foray into editorials. It also hosts social channels like Strong Black Lead and Geeked, as well as an awards-focused print and digital magazine called Queue. In an increasingly competitive streaming environment, these editorials, with the addition of Tudum, will serve to improve customer retention and acquisition.

While the website can be accessed around the world, it currently only supports the English language.
