An online forum held by the Commission on Higher Education — Cordillera Administrative Region (CHED -CAR) on Tuesday suddenly turned into a protest venue as several students and youth representatives Zoombombed the webinar where Sandro Marcos, grandson of the late dictator and tyrant Ferdinand Marcos, served as a guest speaker.

The young Marcos, who delivered a pre-recorded speech, spoke about “redefining the role of youth in nation building.”

Replacing their real names with names of Martial Law victims and the hashtags #NeverAgain, #MarcosMagnanakaw, and #MarcosDiktador, the virtual protesters voiced their dissent to the crimes committed during the Martial Law and to the Marcos families’ multiple attempts of historical revisionism.

Some of the names that appeared were Archimedes Trajano, a student activist during the Martial Law era who was tortured and killed following a student forum in 1977 where he publicly scrutinized Imee Marcos; and EdJop, short for Edgar Jopson, a student union leader who was killed in a military raid during the Martial Law.

According to a tweet posted by Akbayan Youth chairperson RJ Naguit showing screengrabs of the event, protesting participants were never given the platform to ask questions, while the forum’s chatbox was disabled.

Wag na tayong maglokohan. Sandro Marcos is neither a representative of the youth nor has the credibility to talk about nation-building. The Marcoses have plundered our country’s wealth and killed a generation of heroes,” said Naguit.

Also on Tuesday, Bongbong Marcos, Sandro’s father, announced his bid to pursue the presidential post in the 2022 national elections. The former senator who failed to capture the vice-president seat in 2016 will be running under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
