Public Schools Nationwide Now Have Annual Access to Adobe CC

Despite the pandemic, many students have strived to continue their studies and attend online classes — but it hasn’t been without challenges. Students and teachers lack the tools and resources needed for the virtual setup, which prompted the Department of Education (DepEd) to issue annual access to Adobe Creative Cloud Licenses to public schools across the country.

Improving Digital Literacy Skills of Students and Teachers

The objective of distributing Adobe CC Licenses, according to DepEd’s press release, is to improve the students’ and educators’ digital literacy skills. The Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS) of the Office of the Undersecretary for Administration (OUA) collaborated with Adobe to acquire about 108,000 licenses. In addition, they are working with the Creative Nation Academy to share knowledge and expertise on the software.

“DepEd must provide these licenses to our public schools because we are now in the creative development era,” Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del Pascua said. “Anyone can be a content creator due to the simplification and adaptability of existing mobile devices where learning and design can blend as one.” These tools will hopefully prepare students to be globally inclined and increase their chances of employment.

The Importance of Providing the Necessary Tools and Resources

Mark Sy, head of the ICTS-Educational Technology Unit head, stresses the importance of opening gateways to the educators since they are the people teaching these transferrable skills. “If we do not provide them with these tools, we cannot have competitive graduates who will help the Philippines in [raising] global digital skills standards that contribute to nation-building,” Sy explained.

DepEd has held several webinars on Adobe’s productivity tools and design software as part of the Digital Rise Program. This ensures that all DepEd schools have the necessary tools and resources to foster technological advancements. The department also seeks to enhance educators’ creativity in the field of digital and multimedia arts.

Adobe CC is a unified set of Adobe desktop software and mobile apps. Students and teachers can access this via an Adobe Federated ID linked to their school’s email address made available from January 15, 2022.
