There’s no doubt about it: Stephen Curry is NBA’s 3-point king.

On December 14, Golden State Warriors’ Curry made history at Madison Square Garden by becoming the NBA player with the most career 3-pointers after sinking his 2,974th shot from beyond the arc in their match against the New York Knicks.

The record-shattering shot came just a little more than a minute into the game’s first quarter as Curry hit his second three-pointer off a pass from Andrew Wiggins. The Warriors then quickly fouled and called a time out to give Curry the time to savor his moment and blow kisses to his fans from the rafters. He even took the time to hug his mother, Sonya, off the court.

With his legendary showing on Tuesday, Curry surpassed the Hall of Famer Ray Allen’s record of 2,973 career three-pointers. Allen achieved his feat after appearing in 1,300 games across his 18-year tenure on the court. He played his final game in the league in 2014 at 38 years old and officially retired two years later.

Allen’s own record-breaking moment came in 2011 when he blew past the record made by former Indiana Pacers baller Reggie Miller.

Meanwhile, Curry, age 33, overtook Allen’s numbers during his 789th game. This means that any shot that the Warriors’ point guard will make moving forward will be the all-time NBA record.

Miller now sits at third in the list with 2,560 career three-pointers, while Brooklyn Nets guard James Harden occupies the fourth spot with his 2,509 (and counting) shots from the deep. Retired sharpshooter Kyle Korver’s 2,450 3-pointers round out the top five.

Both Allen and Miller were in attendance to witness and congratulate Curry for his history-making moment.

“It’s kind of crazy to think, growing up around the league, watching my dad play, my family going to old Hornets games and having big dreams about shooting the basketball and one day hopefully playing on this level,” said Curry of his three-point record. “To do it here at Madison Square Garden, in front of this guy right here [Ray Allen] and Reggie [Miller] and just all that basketball means a lot to me, it’s special.”

“I can’t express how much of an honor that was to have that reaction here on the road and the appreciation for this milestone.”

Other NBA legends and players also congratulated Curry on his historic record, including LeBron JamesMagic JohnsonKevin Durant, and Trae Young.

On top of this, Curry is also an early favorite to win his third career MVP award this season. He has made a 3-pointer in his last 152 consecutive games, a streak that started in December 2018. That streak is second only to his stretch of 157 games where he made at least one 3-pointer between November 2014 to November 2016.
