Nope, this isn’t another case of a runaway animal, but it needs no less of our attentions anyway.
As the pandemic likewise distresses both people and animals, the kutseros who have made their living driving their classic kalesas around Intramuros have taken to social media to air their call for donations.
The plea clarifies that donations won’t go towards the welfare of the kutseros, but of the horses on which the kalesa culture primarily depends. A minimum donation of 1,500PhP will adequately provide a week’s worth of nourishment for one of the fifteen registered horses, until the business of tourism is finally restored within the historic Walled City.
You may course your financial contributions to the following bank account:
Old Manila Walks and Tour Services
BDO Account Number: 0038 3005 4461
All financial contributions will be coordinated with the Intramuros Administration, the management in charge of the kalesas.
These kalesas are as timeless a symbol as Intramuros itself. When a controversy arose years ago about the horses being made to work too hard, people came together to demand better care. Now, people are enjoined to once again come together to show the same care to these horses which, since March, have not been able to go to work at all.
You may message the Facebook page of Old Manila Walks to inquire for further details or to confirm your donation.
