The Miss World 2021 Coronation Night Has Been Postponed

If you’re an avid fan of beauty pageants like most Filipinos, you’re probably aware that the Philippine candidate for Miss World 2021, Tracy Maureen Perez, has been killing it in Puerto Rico the past few days. The 28-year old model has already advanced to the Top 5 of the Beauty with a Purpose event, and global pageant observers have selected her as one of their top picks to win the coveted Miss World crown. She’s even secured a slot in the Top 30 of the prestigious competition.

Just before the final coronation night, which was originally slated for December 17 at the Puerto Rico Coliseum, the event was postponed because some candidates and event staff tested positive for COVID-19. The new coronation night schedule has yet to be announced, but it will take place within the next 90 days.

“We are very excited, and looking forward to the return of our contestants, who we have gotten to know and love, to compete in the Miss World crown in a safe environment,” Julia Morley, CEO of Miss World Inc. said in a statement.

In case you’re wondering, The Miss World Philippines organization has confirmed that Perez has tested negative for COVID-19. She is currently taking all precautionary measures to ensure her safety and well-being. She’ll soon return to the country before the go signal is given for the competition.

Understandably so, Miss World did not disclose how many candidates have tested positive for COVID-19. However, it was reported that 17 candidates and personnel had COVID-19 as of December 16.  Those affected will need clearance from health officials and advisors before they can return to their home countries.

Perez has been through a lot in her Miss World journey. The coronation night of the local pageant had been delayed several times. She also has to endure hours in high heels during the event. Given her performance in the Miss World pageant so far, it can be expected that Perez will rise against all odds, and still give it her all for the contest.

For now, all we can do is wait for further updates from the Miss World organizers. Knowing the spirit of Perez, she’ll probably take the extra time to prepare to wow the crowd even more. Given that there’s still an ongoing global pandemic, it’s understandable how it’s better to be safe than sorry.
