The Miss Universe pageant is considered the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world. As a country that absolutely loves supporting Filipina beauties in these contests, it goes without saying that a lot of people are excited about the next pageant.
Well, it looks like the Miss Universe hopefuls are heading to Israel this year. Israel’s tourism ministry announced that Israel is set to host Miss Universe for the first time, staging the televised beauty pageant in the Red Sea resort of Eilat, as per GMA News Online.
“I fully hope that in December we will be celebrating not only the new Miss Universe here in Israel, but most importantly, the end of the world pandemic,” Tourism Minister Yoel Razvozov said in a video statement.
If you recall, the 2020 pageant was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It was only last May when Miss Mexico Andrea Meza was crowned the new Miss Universe, a decision that has caused quite a stir among netizens. Filipina bet Rabiya Mateo bowed out of the contest after failing to enter the Top 10 of the contest.
This year marks the 70th time the Miss Universe pageant has been held, and 100 beauties around the world are expected in Israel for the event which will be broadcast across the world.
You may be asking yourself, ‘Why Israel’? Well, tourism ministry quoted Miss Universe Organization president Paula M Shugart as saying Israel had been on the shortlist of host countries for years “due to its rich history, beautiful landscapes, myriad of cultures”.
Given that Israel has been able to manage the COVID-19 pandemic well, with its high vaccination rate, it looks like holding the pageant in Israel is a good decision. Who will the country send to Israel? We’ll find out when the Miss Universe Philippines pageant takes place this September 25.
