Since it was first announced, the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has been among the most in-demand options in the market. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it has an efficacy rate of 95%, which makes it one of the reliable jabs available today.

However, the Philippines has yet to receive doses of the Pfizer vaccine. This may change sooner than later. As per ABS-CBN News, the country might its first batch of Pfizer/BioNTech this May, and Moderna is slated to arrive this June.

Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez said that the country is targeting “close to 200,000” shots of Modern shots by June 15. “It will start increasing in succeeding months… They will complete the 20 million before the end of the year,” he explained in a press conference.

On the other hand, 117,000 jabs of the Pfizer vaccine will most likely arrive this May. If you’re wondering what’s taking the country so long to secure doses of the most popular vaccine options, Romualdez explained that there was a lack of an indemnity deal. This settles who will shoulder the cost of adverse effects from the vaccine. The initial batch of Pfizer vaccines was originally slated for mid-February.

The country aims to vaccinate 70 million Filipinos in order to attain herd immunity by the end of 2021. So far, the government has received 3.025 million COVID-19 shots.

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases recently approved the next batch of vaccination rollouts, which is scheduled for mid-May to June. If you’re part of the said group, you might end up getting a dose of the coveted Pfizer vaccine.
In the meantime, here’s a list of things you can do when you do get vaccinated. Things may be dire right now, but there is hope that the end of this dreadful pandemic is within reach.
