After several coronation night delays and long hours of wearing sky-high heels, we finally have a new Miss World Philippines. Tracy Maureen Perez of Cebu City has been crowned Miss World Philippines 2021.
Perez bested 44 candidates at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. By clinching the top prize, she will represent the country in the Miss World pageant, which is slated in Puerto Rico this December.
The 28-year old statuesque beauty also took home five special awards during the coronation night. She succeeds actress/model Michelle Dee, who she coincidentally lost to in the said competition in 2019.
A seasoned pageant contestant, Perez finished second runner-up in Miss Cebu 2016, finished sixth at Binibining Cebu 2017, and was named Binibining Cebu Charity in 2018. She finished in the top 12 of the Miss World Philippines competition while placing in the top 16 of Miss Universe Philippines 2020.
As per Rappler.com, Perez was oozing with coincidence early in the competition, positive she would be winning one of the crowns in the prestigious pageant. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the past pageants I’ve joined is that my biggest competition is myself because I usually doubt myself along the process,” she said.
Perez wasn’t the only one who took home a crown at the competition. Kathleen Paton was crowned Miss Eco Philippines, Tatyana Austria was proclaimed Miss Eco Teen Philippines, while Emmanuelle Vera was named Miss Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas. Shaila Robertera won the Miss Multinational title, Trisha Martinez was hailed as Miss Philippines Tourism, while Michelle Arceo was Miss Environment International.
To date, Megan Young, who represented the nation in 2013, has been the only Filipina to bag the Miss World crown. Miss World Philippines was forced to skip last year’s edition due to the pandemic. Hence, Michelle Dee was the one who crowned Perez. Will Perez win it all this year? We’ll have to wait and see.
