Tulfo Says Bongbong Marcos Does Not Need to Apologize for ‘Sins of the Father’

Early this week, senatorial aspirant and news host Raffy Tulfo said Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, should not be blamed for the wrongdoings of the latter.

Para sa akin kasi, kasalanan nung tatay bakit maging kasalanan ng anak? Why would he apologize for something that he did not do, na ang may kagagawan ay tatay niya? Opinyon ko ‘yan,” Tulfo said on ANC’s Headstart.

(For me, why would the sins of the father be the sins of the child? Why would he apologize for something that he did not do, something that his father did? That’s my opinion.)

He then shared that he had also been caught up in family affairs in the past, despite not having fault in the situation.

“Bakit ‘yung kasalanan ng kamag-anak, ipinapasa sa isang kamag-anak? Because I myself [have] been a victim of that. Just because nagkaroon ng isyu ‘yung mga kapatid ko na kaapelyido ko, pati ako nadadamay. Dapat hindi ganun.”

(Why are the faults of the family passed on to other family members? Because I myself [have] been a victim of that. Just because my siblings are involved in an issue, I have the same last name, I am dragged into it. It shouldn’t be that way.)

“Give the other relative na walang kinalaman sa kaso a chance na para ma-prove ang sarili niya,” he added.

(Give the other relative who had nothing to do with the case a chance so he can prove himself.)

The 61-year-old media personality also noted that the case of the Marcoses’ alleged ill-gotten wealth should be left up to the courts.

Meron na kasing mga court decision tungkol diyan, so kung meron nang court decision, pabayaan natin yung korte na i-implement yan. Kung ano pang mga kasong pending, then so be it,” he stated.

(There are already court decisions about the matter, so if there is a decision by the court, then we will just let the court implement it. For the cases that are still pending, then so be it.)

Ferdinand Marcos declared martial law in the Philippines in 1972, ruling with an iron fist and disposing of dissenters with trademark violence. In the next decade, the Marcos family would steal an estimated $5 to $10 billion (more than P500 billion) from the country, according to the World Bank-United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s Stolen Asset Recovery report.
