Dog owners in Valenzuela City can now have their fur babies registered through the city’s Pets App and have them implanted with a free microchip starting on March 13, 2021. This is the local government’s initiative to give the pets a permanent ID and is mandated by Ordinance No. 848, Series of 2021, or the Valenzuela City Pet Registration and Adoption Ordinance.
What is ValPets?
The city launched the Valenzuela City Pets App, or ValPets, to help residents track their missing or wandering pets. All dog owners in Valenzuela City are required to register their pets and have them implanted with the microchip that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. It’s a safe and harmless procedure so there’s nothing to worry about.
The City Veterinary Services Offices will have a Registration Site in every Barangay of Valenzuela City for microchipping, which can be availed free of charge. Check the schedule for your area online or contact 8352-2000 local 2111.

How it Works
As explained by the uploaded video on the city’s YouTube channel, lost pets will have their microchip implant scanned by personnel from the City Veterinary Services Office. This will provide them the identity of the owner and other details about the dog to help them get back home. All the information about the missing dogs will also be posted on the website, where owners can view updates.
To claim your missing dog, personally visit the city’s veterinary office custody or have them dropped off at your home. There will be a delivery fee for the latter option, which would be paid through PayMaya. However, unclaimed pets will be put up for adoption.
After a concerned citizen reached out to Valenzuela City Mayor, Rex Gatchalian, via Twitter about the long ques on-site, he responded that this was only the case because residents were very keen about getting it done on the first day. He reassures this is a mainstay program that will run year long and that they will soon launch an online system that allows people to schedule an appointment.
