On Monday, Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Charity Victoria Velasquez Vincent revealed she was presented with the offer to be Miss Universe New Zealand 2021 “shortly after” the Miss Universe Philippines coronation night last September 30. However, she chose to turn the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity down.

Vincent, who was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, took to Instagram to explain her reason for “politely” declining the offer by the Miss Universe New Zealand (MUNZ) organization.

“So many people will say I’m crazy for turning down this opportunity, but I had to choose what I know in my heart was the right thing to do,” Vincent wrote. “My heart is, and always will be here to serve the Philippines. Some may say I’m not Filipina enough, and that’s ok.”

“I know who I am. I know what I stand for. I am a Filipina,” she proudly declared.

She then went on to express her gratitude to the MUNZ for the opportunity, and to the MUPH organization for their unconditional support.

Representing Cavite at last month’s Miss Universe Philippines pageant, Vincent finished third as she was crowned the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Charity. She follows runner-up Katrina Dimaranan, who won as Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Tourism.

The eventual winner, Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Gomez, is set to compete at the prestigious event this December in Israel.
