Abel Reveals His Next Album Will Be His Last As The Weeknd

Is this the end of his music career?

Abel Tesfaye, the musician and actor known as The Weeknd, recently revealed in an interview with W Magazine that he is considering retiring his stage name after the release of his upcoming album.

He stated that he is currently on a cathartic path and is preparing to close the chapter of The Weeknd.

He plans to continue making music but is still determining if he will go by his real name, Abel, or still use The Weeknd moniker. Yet, he is decided to shed his current identity and start anew.

The singer disclosed that he might use his stage name for the last time on his forthcoming album, which he considers his final hurrah as The Weeknd.

“This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say,” he said, adding that he is working on a trilogy, which fans speculate includes his 2020 album After Hours and 2022’s Dawn FM.

This isn’t the first time the singer has hinted at giving up his stage name.

Last year, before releasing his “Out of Time” music video, he tweeted, “You guys are hilarious. I feel like I should change my stage name to ABEL at this point lol.” He even joked about legally changing his name to Abel, without a last name, like Madonna, Cher, or Prince.

The title of The Weeknd’s upcoming album has yet to be revealed. Given that he was recently crowned “the most popular artist,” fans are surely awaiting his latest album’s release. But, it is sad to think that it’ll mark the end of The Weeknd era and the start of a new chapter for the artist.
