The pageant fail comes too early!
Before the announcement of the first cut of finalists, Alden went to announce the first batch of special awards-the first of which is the Miss Friendship who is “the friendliest delegate in this batch that captured the hearts of other ladies and the source of love and positivity even in the middle of the competition.”
Alden then announced Agusan Del Norte’s Jannarie Sarzoso, who immediately came in front to take the merit.
However, what started out well came out as a failure when the host took back the award and handed it to another candidate.
“I stand corrected. Miss Friendship is Ms. Capiz Shane Glenn Mae Macquiran,” says Alden.
While the award was taken quickly from Ms. Agusan Del Norte, consolation came just as quickly as the host announced that she is actually the “Face of Social Media.”
With all the hype and excitement that Filipinos have for beauty pageants and the pressure that comes with hosting them, blunders and bloopers, including the names of the candidates getting mixed up!
One classic example of which is Steve Harvey’s big-time fail during the Miss Universe 2015 wherein he announced Colombia’s Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner, eventually revoking the title minutes after and handing it to Philippines’ Pia Wurtzbach.
Here are some reactions to Alden’s minor blunder in the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 pageant:
The Miss Universe Philippines 2023 pageant is currently being held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. Alden is co-hosting the pageant with Xian Lim.
