In 2018, an online deduction game called “Among Us” was dropped worldwide. Amid the pandemic, the game skyrocketed and became a cultural phenomenon, launching countless memes and costume ideas.
Soon enough, you can take playing the game to the next level…virtual reality-style, to be exact. Yes, you read that right. The “Among Us VR” edition will launch for PlayStation VR, SteamVRon, and Meta Quest (formerly known as the Oculus Quest), and is being developed by Schell Games, creators of the acclaimed I Expect You To Die series.
As a special treat to fans around the world, the makers of the game dropped a teaser trailer during the recently concluded 2021 Game Awards. The brief trailer shows a glimpse of the immersive murder-mystery experience in VR. We see a bunch of vents in a cartoony 3D room and a player’s hand entering a code while ominous music plays before getting attacked by a crewmate/sinister imposter.
So what can you expect from the upcoming game? Well, the new game will be a first-person 3D experience instead of a third-person 2D one, but it retains the “core mechanics” of developer Innersloth’s original multiplayer game.
“Among Us” was initially available on iOS and Android devices in June 2018 and Windows later that year. It was ported to Nintendo Switch consoles in late 2020 and will be getting an Xbox and PlayStation release this December 2021. The game allows for cross-platform play across devices.
The VR adaptation is part of a partnership with consulting firm Robot Teddy, which is overseeing the game’s jump to new platforms. There is no official word on when the VR adaptation of the hit game will drop worldwide. Given how huge the game is in the gaming world, fans will surely purchase the game once it virtually hit the shelves.
