The Animo x OPM spirit lives on!
On June 25, Lasallians gave life to the Henry Sy Sr. Grounds as they celebrated ANIMUSIKA 2022. It’s been exactly two years since De La Salle University held its last student-led OPM concert in person.
ANIMUSIKA first started in 2009. The name came from the words “Animo,” the battle cry of Lasallians, and “Musika,” a Filipino word for music. The concert is the culminating event of the University Vision-Mission Week. It showcases local talents, some established and some up-and-coming.
The event has always taken place at the university’s Henry Sy Sr. Grounds. The open area serves as a place for students to chill and relax between classes. During the event, there would usually be food stalls around the venue. Students could buy meals from such stalls while enjoying the music. But the pandemic forced students out of the campus. For the last two years, ANIMUSIKA was a virtual event. Even though the animo spirit hadn’t faded away, it wasn’t the same without the company of your friends.
The return of ANIMUSIKA
After two years, DLSU-Manila opened its doors again. ANIMUSIKA 2022 featured the hottest local artists in the OPM industry. The performers were Ace Banzuelo, Any Name’s Okay, Clara Benin, Mars Mango, and Rivermaya. Lasallians were also treated to performances by their homegrown artists. These were the DLSU Chorale, LSDC-Street, DLSU Innersoul, and Animo Pep Squad!
Given the pandemic, DLSU implemented restrictions to ensure the safety of the students. Everyone needed to mask up and stick to social distancing. Outsiders were also not allowed buy tickets as the event was only open to Lasallians.

Even so, Lasallians sure had the time of their lives. Students mingled with their friends and finally had the chance to step foot on the campus once again. Even if the event isn’t how it used to be, this year’s Animusika didn’t disappoint.
