Antoinette Taus says: “Typical noong ’90s, yun ang mga theories every time na mag-iibang bansa ka”
Former ‘90s teen star Antoinette Taus has finally spoken about a past rumor that she left show business because she had a child.
In 2001, Taus left show business at the height of her career to migrate to the United States. At the time, her love team with Dingdong Dantes was a hit on television and in movies. The two were also known to be in a real-life relationship.
During Taus’ guest appearance in Camille Prats’ YouTube vlog, the former teen actress opened up about why she left for the U.S.
She herself also addressed the rumors that she and Dantes had a love child that she chose to keep as a secret, which was the rumored reason of why she migrated.
She tells Prats, “Ang dami talagang hindi makaintindi bakit ako umalis. Kaya noong time na yon, ang dami nilang iba’t ibang mga theories and tsismis na hanggang ngayon…na may mga taong nag-iisip na nagkaroon ako ng kids before.”
Taus categorically says that she would be proud to share if ever she has kids. The only thing is that it’s not true.
The “Anna Karenina” star explains, “There’s nothing wrong with that. My only point is, kung meron ako, I would be proud of my children and share it with the world.”
“Hindi lang daw isa, kasi every time na babalik ako sa States, sinasabi nila, magkakaroon na naman daw ako [ng anak].”
Taus is also aware that it is a trend during her time that when a personality leaves for the States or leaves showbiz altogether, she is pregnant.
She continues, “Typical noong ’90s, yun ang mga theories every time na mag-iibang bansa ka. Yan ang mga dating usong-usong mga tsismis.
“And I was like, ‘Grabe, pumunta lang naman ako ng States kasi may pangarap din ako.’”
Antoinette Taus’ mom
When Antoinette Taus decided to migrate with her family to the States, they found out something that changed their lives.
She narrates, “Actually, what happened was right after we moved, we found out na nagkasakit nga yung mom ko sa cancer. So, it kind of became something na, buti na lang din we did, kasi we were able to be with her throughout her whole treatment. Hindi yung parang we had to move during that difficult time. Nandoon na kami.”
Taus’ move to the States even became more fulfilling as she was able to spend time with her mother before her death.
“We got to spend the last eight months talaga with her, and that’s really when I kind of stopped doing the work that I was doing after that, kasi hindi ko na-realize na I went into depression.”
Antoinette Taus’ depression
Unfortunately, Antoinette Taus did not realize that her mom’s death took such a toll on her that she fell into depression.
She shares, “I was 23 years old, akala ko I’m so strong kasi I’m moving through, e. Hindi ko na-realize what I was doing was covering up my pain with happy moments.
“Yung always trying to find ways to be with friends, with people, always trying to find ways to be in a happy setting.”
Now, looking back at the time she migrated, she relates, “The whole moving to the States was part of a big dream and, at the same time, the part of the transition of what’s happening to my life din today in a very big way.”
Antoinette Taus started her career in the early ‘90s as a child star, being part of ABS-CBN shows such as “Ang TV,” “Oki Doki Doc,” and the movie “Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara.”
In 1996, Taus transferred to VIVA and did the show “Anna Karenina.” A year later, she was paired with Dingdong Dantes in the teen-oriented series “T.G.I.S.”
Their love team became popular that they were able to do several movies that were box-office hits.
When Taus left VIVA in 2000, she became part of the shows “Click” and “Tago Ka Na,” and had her own segment in “S.O.P.” before she ultimately decided to migrate to the United States and pursue a Hollywood career.
In 2013, Taus returned to the Philippines to give her career a second shot. She was able to do shows in ABS-CBN and movies with VIVA.
Right now, Taus focuses on her non-government organization, Planet CORA, which advocates sustainable programs to address environmental issues.
