Barbie Forteza Defends David Licauco’s Privacy About His Love Life

Barbie explains why she’s blessed to have David as her love team: “He doesn’t really take advantage of me just to make the love team work [na] liligawan ka para lang sa image”

“Kapuso Primetime Princess” Barbie Forteza quickly came to the defense of her love-team partner, David Licauco, after he was pressed about his love life during a recent press conference.

Barbie and David faced the members of the media during the press conference of their upcoming movie, “That Kind of Love,” on June 20, 2024 at Plaza Ibarra, Quezon City.

During the presscon, David was asked if he is having a hard time finding a girlfriend because he is attached to a love team.

David then answered: “I’m not saying I’m single.”

According to the Sparkle artist, he just chooses to keep it personal and quiet.

He expounded, “Siguro, nakikita niyo naman sa social media, it’s just what you see is what you get. I don’t wanna disclose anything.

Malay mo, maglakad lakad ka, meron akong kasama. Kasi it’s a private life na I don’t wanna… yeah.”

Is he trying to protect the girl he may be in a relationship with?

Thinking about what to answer, he then says, “Yeah, of course. Siguro.”

Barbie then grabs her microphone to defend David’s silence about the topic.

She explains, “Siguro, speaking on behalf of David na lang, knowing him… Siguro, sa lahat sa atin dito, I would like to say na ako ang pinaka nakakakilala sa kanya.

“Knowing him, he’s a very private person, so just sitting here in front of all of you is a really big challenge na for David. So, he’s not the type of person to open up his personal life to all of you, which we all find very challenging kung tayo man ang tumayo sa kanyang posisyon, di ba?

“So, I think we would just like to ask for respect for privacy na lang po for people like David na gustong ihiwalay talaga ang kanyang professional life at talagang mag-bloom ang kanyang career, di ba?

Barbie and David’s “kind of love” for each other

Barbie coming to David’s defense proves her statement of being her love team’s “hype man.”

Earlier in the press conference, Barbie and David were asked to describe the “kind of love” they have for each other.

Barbie described herself as David’s supporter and “hype man.”

Barbie explains, “The kind of love that I have for David is hindi agad-agad pero noong na-reach na namin yung level of friendship na kailangan namin to make the partnership work, the love I have for David is more like, feeling ko, mas nagiging ano niya, taga-guide, taga-support, hype man ba tawag doon?

Na-experience ko yun noong nag-Canada kami, nag-Sparkle tour kami sa Canada na parang I really went out of my way to support him on stage. As we all know, medyo mahiyain ang ating ginoo.

“I think it’s more of that, showing my support sa kanya sa abot ng makakaya ko kapag magkasama kami para mas mag-work yung love team.”

As for David, he just reciprocates the support Barbie has been giving to him.

“For me naman, I just reciprocate doon sa support na binibigay niya sa akin, hindi naman niya kailangan talagang suportahan ako but she still does. I super appreciate that.

“At saka, think about it, sabihin natin 20 years from now, like my name is actually attached to Barbie’s name, when you search Barbie Forteza ‘tapos lalabas David Licauco, di ba? sa Google-related search?

“So, yun, I really value Barbie as a friend and as a co-worker.”

But was there a time when they got confused with the “love” they have for something deeper?

To answer the question, Barbie points out her rich experience in having a love team, and the maturity she has as an actress.

Barbie expounds, “Siguro, one of the things I’m grateful for na nakapasok ulit ako sa love team is I got paired in a love team at this age, sa edad ko, kasi siyempre, nag-mature na rin naman ako as an actress and this is not the first time na may naka-love team ako.

“So, over the years, natutunan ko kung paano magtrabaho sa isang love team para hindi maging confusing. Pero I understand where you’re coming from, talaga nga namang nakaka-confuse siya, hindi ba, para sa mga bagong artista na kilig kilig agad, di ba? ‘Tapos magiging love team.

Siguro, ipagpapasalamat ko rin na marami na akong naging ka-love team before kaya medyo na-train ako kumbaga na talagang work tayo.”

More than the experience, Barbie is grateful that David is not someone who takes advantage of the love team for his image.

She adds, “I’m always blessed with good people to work with, fortunately. I’m really grateful for that.

Si David kasi yung tipo ng love team na he doesn’t really take advantage of me just to make the love team work [na] liligawan ka. Yung ganun para lang sa image, para lang ma-issue kayo na, ‘Ay, kinilig ako.’ Wala siyang ganun.

Napaka-totoong tao niya, napaka-genuine.

David echoes Barbie’s thoughts about their love team.

He says, “Gaya ng sinabi ni Barbie, we’re really good friends and we support each other. Actually, blessed ako na si Barbie yung love team ko. Sabi nga niya, I don’t take advantage of her and siya rin naman, hindi nagte-take advantage.”

“That Kind of Love,” directed by Catherine O. Camarillo, produced by Pocket Media and Happy Infinite Productions, and distributed by Regal Entertainment, is showing on July 10 in cinemas.

The movie partly shot in Korea also stars Kaila Estrada, Divine Aucina, Ivan Carapiet, and Arlene Muhlach.
