Barbie Forteza Reflects On How To Keep Love Alive With Jak Roberto

Barbie: “Minsan magkakaroon ng time na merong mga desisyon na kailangang gawin”

Barbie Forteza ponders on the lessons she learned in keeping her romance healthy and thriving with beau Jak Roberto

The Sparkle artist bares these learnings in a YouTube vlog uploaded by Jak in celebration of their seventh anniversary as a couple.

As seen in the 22 minute-long video, the lovers had a coffee date in Tagaytay—where they sat in front of a scenic view overlooking the Taal volcano.

Looking back on the seven-year of love, Barbie begins, “It takes a lot of work to keep the love alive,” before she belts, “because it’s not always rainbows and butterflies—it’s compromise that moves…” as a lyric reference to Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved.”

Going on a more serious note, Barbie expounds, “Yun nga, pero I mean, hindi laging kilig. Minsan magkakaroon ng time na merong mga desisyon na kailangang gawin or may…siyempre hindi all the time magkasama na kayo like before.”

In agreement, Jak then says, “May mga work na, ganun, business,” to which Barbie replies with, “Minsan, you want to explore something else alone or you want to venture into another career or business nga.”

Reiterating the bottomline of her realization, Barbie emphasizes that love needs to be maintained closely for it somehow defines how much a person loves the other.

As she puts it, “Basta it takes a lot of work pero worth it yun kasi at the end of the day, mas napo-prove yung love mo dun sa tao.”

Does Barbie Forteza feel the seven-year itch for Jak Roberto?

In theory, the seven-year itch refers to a time when a couple grows indifferent and sometimes annoyed with each other for being together for so long. According to Jak, it happens in between the sixth year of romance going into seventh—in which the couple gets less affectionate with each other.

When asked by Jak if Barbie ever felt such, the actress confirms, “Hindi.” They then said that it might be because they were both busy—especially Barbie who had a lot on her plate starting around the time she did the GMA-7’s hit series, “Maria Clara at Ibarra” with David Licauco, Julie Anne San Jose, and Dennis Trillo.

Admittingly, Barbie reveals, “Siguro ang nabawasan is yung time for each other,” seconded by Jak who says, “Ganun kasi, maturity. Ganun na talaga, e.”

So, how do they compensate for the lost times?

Jak shares, “Minsan nga di na kami halos nagkikita ni Madam [Barbie], kasi minsan, pag may trabaho siya… pag meron talagang chance magkita, mag-date, yung monthsary, it’s a must yun talaga. Kailangan makapag-ramen man lang kami, makapunta kami sa go-to place namin.”

The actor then emphasizes—despite all the time constraints—he is very happy that they are growing together. As he puts it, “We’re getting better and getting stronger,” followed by Barbie’s “than yesterday.”

Jak and Barbie first worked together in 2017 for the romantic-comedy series “Meant To Be.” It was in the same year when Barbie hard-launched Jak as her boyfriend through an Instagram post that reads, “Monay pandesal sana magtagal.” Monay refers to Barbie, while Jak is often alluded to as pandesal for his toned abdominal muscles.
