Beyoncé Holds Private Concert In Dubai Hotel

Beyoncé told the audience to keep their phones, but pictures and videos still surfaced online

Beyoncé performed for the launch of a new luxury hotel in Dubai, Atlantis The Royal. The concert, which was held January 21, 2023, lasted an hour and began with Etta James’ “At Last.”

Beyoncé’s performance began with fireworks exploding over the vast arena. Stage lights around the area also revealed an Egyptian-themed backdrop.

The 41-year-old singer ascended from a stage in front of a big half-sun model. She wore a yellow and sheer bustier with a feathery skirt and matching back piece.

Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy also joined her on stage. According to Variety, the mother-daughter combo collaborated on “Brown Skin Girl.”

The publication adds that Beyoncé’s performance consisted of ballads. These included “Freedom,” “Spirit,” and “Be Alive.” Nonetheless, the performer included fan favorites such as “Beautiful Liar” and “Naughty Girl.” The same report says she did not perform any songs from her 2022 album “Renaissance.”

Concertgoers reportedly had to adhere to a no-phone policy during the concert. But then, some members of the audience snubbed the policy as videos leaked online.

However, some netizens criticized the singer for performing in a country that doesn’t support the LGBT+ community.

Dubai is within the United Arab Emirates. It’s a nation comprised that adhere to strict laws and prohibit homosexuality.

Kitty Scott-Claus, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star, was one of those who raised a question about this, recalling about how David Beckham received backlash for signing a deal with the Qatari government to advertise an event.

She wrote, “Hi I have a question.. Can someone explain why everyone was cancelling David Beckham the other months but now celebrating Beyonce for performing in Dubai? One rule for one and one for another?”

Some netizens agreed to Scott-Claus’ sentiment. There were others who pointed out that she worked for a private company. For years, people have considered Beyoncé as an LGBT+ ally.
