Blacklist International Wins M3 World Championship

Once again, Filipinos have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with in the esports world. Blacklist International has been crowned the world champions of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang at the M3 World Championship. Interestingly, they faced off against another Filipino team, Onic PH, to bag the coveted top plum.

Blacklist International not only gained the title of world champions in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang gaming world, but they won pretty huge prize money as well. Their win entitled them to a $300,000 cash prize. This is roughly P15 million. Meanwhile, Onic PH still took home $120,000 or P6 million as runner-ups of the tourney.

The road to becoming world champions was no easy feat for Blacklist International. The team endured tough loss care of North America’s BloodThirstyKings in the first round of the upper bracket playoffs. After being regulated to the lower bracket in the playoffs, Blacklist International displayed resiliency by eliminating Indonesia’s Onic Esports and RRQ Hoshi, Brazil’s Vivo Keyd, and Singapore’s EVOS SG. Before their showdown with fellow Filipino squad, Onic PH, they even had the opportunity to defeat BTK.

While Onic PH had a stunning winning streak leading to their finals spot, Blacklist International proved to be dominant in the grand finals last December 19. Blacklist International won with a score of 4-0 in the best-of-seven formatted finals.

Blacklist International member Kiel “Oheb” Soriano was hailed as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament. He earned the spot due to his stellar play on the gold lane, finishing the series with a near-perfect outing of 6 kills and 3 assists against 1 death on Beatrix in their title-clinching Game 4 win.

With this win, Blacklist International has become the second team from the Philippines to win the prestigious world champion title. Bren Esports won the top prize in the M2 tournament but failed to qualify for this year’s bout.

Becoming world champions may be the icing on the cake for a spectacular year, but this isn’t the only tourney that Blacklist International won this 2021. The team was a force to be reckoned with in Seasons 7 and 8 of MPL Philippines.
It’s clear that Blacklist International will be having a spectacular Christmas, and they are already committing to using their winnings for good. According to ABS-CBN News Online, the world champions are planning to donate part of their winnings to typhoon Odette victims. Given all the blessings they received this year, it’s nice to know they’re already paying it forward to those in need.
