Check Out These LGBTQ Webseries We’ve Been Blessed With this Quarantine

Thankfully, quarantine hasn’t stopped local writers and filmmakers from creating art and pursuing projects, and that includes stories about the LGBTQ community. These past few months, we’ve seen a rise in Filipino webseries that explore narratives of queer characters. It’s great that we’re getting more and more diversity on our screens, especially when it’s done through heartwarming arcs and compelling plots.

There are several LGBTQ webseries that you can watch for free online right now, and here are just a few that you can check out:

Gameboys

Gameboys follows the story of Cairo, a livestream gamer, and Gavreel, a viewer who beats Cairo at the game he was playing during his stream. What starts with a friend request, a video call, and a plan for a rematch turns into a budding virtual romance between these two boys during the quarantine.

Pearl Next Door

This webseries is a spinoff of Gameboys, this time focusing on Pearl. Pearl is a vlogger who’s wondering when it’s her time to find love when she finds herself caught between her best friend who she has feelings for and a girl from her childhood that comes back into her life to win her over.

Oh, Mando!

The most current release on this list with only one episode out as of writing is Oh, Mando! Follow Mando as he navigates his freshman year in college while discovering more about his sexuality, and what that means for his relationship with Krisha, his crush on Barry, and his journey to self-acceptance.

Gaya Sa Pelikula

When Karl, an architecture student struggling to pay rent, and Vlad, an older boy hiding from his family, meet, they settle on a living arrangement that can solve both of their problems. As the series progresses, it becomes evident that this could lead them to being more than just reluctant roommates.

Chasing Sunsets

Chasing Sunsets is a story about the love between two women during their stay in La Union when one of them can’t go back to Manila because of the ECQ. This webseries has a much more serious tone than many of the other titles as it tackles issues such as mental illnesses, trauma, and HIV.

Hello Stranger

One of the many hit BL webseries is Hello Stranger. Also set in quarantine, this webseries is about a nerdy college student who gets paired up with the school’s star player for a project. The more they spend time together, the more they find that their unlikely friendship could turn into something more.
